Yes, I know…

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

I’m totally aware of the fact I haven’t updated in ages… technical issues, you understand.  Anyway, I’m just making a short update to say that we’re kinda still about and hope to make a handful of changes in the near future which should improve stuff for the DiggerCast and associated projects, mainly the DiggerFeast.  Ollie and I will eventually do some filming for it, but we need to come up with some plans for it, although I do want to try to get a few eps for the DiggerCast up before the big changeover.

As always, watch this space for details.  Oh, and I may be doing a few things with FB and Twitter soonish just to get things tightened up there.

Lastly, if you’re interested in doing your own podcast and need somewhere to host it, you’ll soon be able to drop me a line with regards to this, but not till things have been finalised for infrastructure.  Again, watch here for details.

Diggercast Episode 1 – Overheard in London

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Yes, it’s finally here, the first episode of the proper run of the DiggerCast!  And to celebrate this monumental event, I’m uploading it uncut!

Website: Overheard in London
Hosts: Andrew Kennett & Ollie Lane

Description: In this episode, Andrew and  Ollie take a look at a site with a subject closer to their hearts and  reflect back on the pilot episode over a year later.   They also chat about random things and lastly take a look at random Urban Dictionary terms, introducing a new feature on the show which replaces the news articles from Fark.com, which results in them learning a lot of slang terms for a certain part of the female anatomy…

Urban Dictionary Terms:
Gays on TrayswankstaGroundingDrucillabaitBlarney StoneFurry Sympathizer (sic)Furry Wall

There was also another term, but I dunno what it was… oh well.

Just to let everyone know as well… a transcript for this episode and the next will be uploaded by the 5th or 6th of April.

New episode coming soon!

Monday, March 14th, 2011

This is just a heads-up to let you all know that new episode of the DiggerCast will be up within the next couple of days, and also by the end of this month, it’ll be at a new place. More on this later.

New DiggerCast season starting soon!

Saturday, February 26th, 2011

Yes, that’s right, we’re finally going into production!  Apologies for the really long delay, had a lot of stuff going on the past while!  Anyway, there will be a new episode up sometime in March, now that we’ve essentialy nailed the format for the show.  Admittedly though, there’s still a few kinks that need ironing out, but the final format is essentially gonna take a minimum of 30 minutes, with 5 mins extra if needed.  Additionally, each extra person (up to 4 people total) will add another 10 minutes to the running time, so a 2 person ep will be 30/35, a 3 person 40/45 and a 4 person 50/55.  Now, there may be rare cases where there might be a 5th person, but the normal max is just 4 people.  Additionally, there will also eventually be transcription available!  I don’t know how long this’ll take exactly, but there will be transcription for sure.  Additionally, the release frequency is set at every 2 weeks too, as we record one week and upload the next, so in the future, we’ll have a week to edit, transcribe and upload.

Oh, and one more thing, I’ll be in America from sometime in April till about June, so while the eps will still go on, it may take a little longer to sort them out transcription-wise.  Rest assured that the eps themselves will be up and edited at least, with the transcription following a bit later on.  Additionally, there will be another project done by the DiggerCast team, known as the DiggerCouch (working title)  This stuff will be done via video and only video, though I can’t reveal what it entails just yet, except for the fact that it’ll be done with some of us in the same room!  And given it’s a Stormhaven Radio related project, it’ll also have its own blog, so watch out for future developments there!

That’s it for now, but look out for a new ep soon!

We’re not dead!

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

Honest we ain’t!

Anyway, just to inform everyone that there will be 2 new episodes of the DiggerCast coming before the end of the year in addition to the 2nd and 3rd episodes I’ve yet to upload >.>

The order of the episodes may be a little fuzzy in that I may upload November’s episode (4) first, then edit upload Eps 2 & 3 after I get back to the UK (I’ve had issues that prevented me from doing so) ; however, I will be backdating the blog posts to be in line with when they were supposed to be uploaded.  Admittedly, this’ll mean then that you’ll be listening to them a little out of order at the start, though with the format being nailed down for the show proper, it now means that there will be less confusion regarding things.  I may consider doing one final run with the Weekly Fark though, just to give it a proper sendoff, and though Ollie may or may not balk at this, but I think we should do a longer special, which will be the final one in the pre-production series.  Essentially, in this one, we’ll do the Weekly Fark, followed by the new section that replaces it, that being a few definitions from the Urban Dictionary.

It’ll make more sense when the new ep is published, but as far as a schedule goes, there will be a recording before the end of the month, and an upload around a week (maybe sooner) after.  No matter what though, the 4th episode will be edited and uploaded before eps 2 & 3.  As for the December ep, we have plans to have that uploaded for just before Xmas day, where it’ll start to more closely resemble the series proper; this means that there is no more Weekly Fark and the UurbanDictionary section will instead replace it.  Keep in mind though that even though the series will be going into production, with the first (proper) episode ideally being published by the 15th of January, it won’t be quite perfect, thougfh at least I’ve determined a show format and frequency.  It’s hoped that with properly going into production, things can start going up a gear and become a lot more defined.  Admittedly though, with my list back home, I’ll have to improvide a little, so likely I’ll just choose a site off the top of my head.  What it is, I’m not saying just yet, but watch out for the update.

Lastly, with the DiggerCast folding back into Stormhaven Radio, albeit in a more organised way, everything will be changing eventually, in terms of the path of the site, though this won’t happen just yet.  You’ll always be able to access the site via www.diggercast.com though, so overall, it may not actually affect your surfing experience, but I’m mentioning it more as a heads-up.

Watch this space for updates, and expect an episode soon, one way or another.

Quick Update

Monday, July 26th, 2010

This is just to say that the DiggerCast will eventually be getting a new episode, and when I mean eventually, I mean sometime in August! Additionally, there’s a special project planned for August too, but I won’t be revealing anything just yet. Lastly, although I initially wanted to separate the DiggerCast from the SHR website, I have decided to keep things tidy by folding the blog into the new Stormhaven Radio multiblog setup. The DC will remain a separate entity in its own right, but all current and future podcasts will be a part of SHR in order to make things easier in the long run. This also means that the 3rd episode of the DC will be uploaded to the new site and also the SHR site will have both a new setup and also will use WordPress 3.x. There will also be placeholders for other podcasts, but I’ll explain more about them later. Watch out for the 2nd episode within the next couple of weeks!

The 3rd episode should follow by the end of the monthl especially now I have my headset and my desktop sorted.  There will also be an announcement made on this episode so be sure to have a listen.

Sorry!

We never got to do what we planned the weekend as there was a backlog of things we needed to do.  Rest assured that we’re planning it for next weekend.  As for the 2nd pilot in the new series, I’ll be uploading it over the next few days hopefully, technical limitations permitting of course.  I hope that eventually down the line I can record using my desktop but for now that’s difficult.

We’re still around & how we work

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Yup, that’s right. Of course, I have a few technical problems, mainly that my headset is missing and my desktop cannot access the internet at present! The second one will be rectified eventually, but as for the first… that could take a bit longer. Anyway, the next weekend, Ollie and I are planning a special where we’re in the same room at the same time, meaning we’ll be trying out local recording! Yes, I’m totally aware the result might be a bit crap, but hey it’s just a test! Of course, it’s not one of the 10 official test pilots (or maybe it will be), so it’s another experiment. Grtanted, the ultimate intention of this to make a fully fledge podcast out of this, but I’m using this testing period to both iron out kinks and set out guidelines for future podcasts so they are a little more solid, as after all, Rome wasn’t built in a day.  If you want to skip my ramblings, I made a summary of the more important stuff at the bottom of this post.

I expect to make screwups in the course of the remaining 8 episodes, which is why I need feedback in the first place; even comments on seemingly minor things in this podcast may be an important consideration in future ones. Admittedly though, this podcast isn’t meant to be taken too seriously, given it’s classed as a comedy podcast, although it could be rather serious in places, depending on the subject being discussed. The Weekly Farkage section may have some more serious articles and we will act accordingly and will read them before commenting further, as I personally have learnt that things aren’t always what they seem with articles. I’d rather not make a mistake like that again.

Anyway, with that aside, I hope to have the 2nd episode edited and uploaded by Saturday or Sunday. This special will most likely seem a little less professional in places due to the setup in place; it’s literally going to be an omnidirectional mic hooked up to Audacity for recording so we expect every sound to be picked up and will most likely have to edit the special too to make sure that some sounds aren’t picked up especially as the room next to the one we’re recording in will have 24 hours of traffic! Test Recording – 32khz

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Another thing I’ve learnt is that I can only have 1 MP3 per post, damn!

Anyway, this is the 32KHz MP3. If there’s any problems, then please do let me know. The MP3s work for me at least, though I’m not sure if they work for anyone else atm, so comment below in the relevent post.

Test recordings – 16khz

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

These recordings are essentially tests for quality, and also to see how they’re handled by the plugin. If I sound like a chipmunk for either of them, it’s likely I’ll have to stick to 44.1Khz in the future, which is better than 48Khz, marginally. Additionally, I’m aware that I said 16Hz and 32Hz when they both should have been Khz… whoops! The numbers are more important anyway.
